Whole Vanilla

Any ideas on what to do with whole vanilla beans? I bought them at Costco awhile ago with a recipe in mind but haven't got around to making it. I just want to use them up. IDEAS?

I know Eryn uses them in crem brule'. I think Julie used them in vanilla bean cupcakes. And I've wanted to try this http://heavenlyhomemakers.com/making-homemade-vanilla-extract-aka-why-laura-bought-a-gallon-of-vodka

Make your own vanilla extract. Take an empty bottle or jar and fill with several cups of vodka or rum. Put about 4 vanilla beans in the alcohol. (Split the beans first). Shake the bottle a couple times a day. After a couple weeks you have your own home-made vanilla extract. When your bottle is about 1/2 empty, add more alcohol. Occasionally add more vanilla beans when you feel the flavor is starting to fade. Its a lot cheaper than buying vanilla in the store.

Sorry, Lee Ann. I didn't read your post before I posted mine.

yes, you can use them to make vanilla cupcakes, you could flavor maple syrup with them, you can make french toast. Basically, anything you use regular vanilla in, you can use the bean. Love the look and texture it gives it, too.
